I have used the six metre band since it was allocated in the UK, in the early days aerials and power levels were restricted but as the conditions were very good at that time I was able to work many statons around Europe and North America.
I used a J beam trapped dual band yagi (4 and 6m) in the late eighties but this was a very heavy beast indeed!
The rig I used at that time was a Kenwood TS-850 and a home brew transistor transverter feeding a rather large home brew valve linear amplifier, I also used a Yaesu FT-690 with the same amplifier.
Nowardays I use the Kenwood TS-2000 and a horizontal dipole which is mounted below the 4m beam (see below).
For band monitoring purposes I use an Alinco DX-70 fed with an indoor vertical.
