I was always fascinated with amateur television (ATV) so I wasted no time in setting up a receiving station in the late sixties which consisted of an old Pye VT4 black and white tv with a valve 70cms converter and home brew 10el yagi, all ATV was on this band using 405 lines at that time, the 70cms band was much bigger in those days!
Incidentally my first transmission on 70cms used only about 2watts from a self excited ex war transmitter which used small acorn valves, believe it or not there was a segment of the band especially for this type of transmission which suffered from considerable drift, I used FM with about 50Kc/s deviation, shock horror.
In the early seventies I was transmitting ATV using an all valve transmitter with a QQVO3-20 valve in the PA, not much power, about 4 watts, the aerial by this time was a J Beam 46el Yagi. Years later I moved to 24cms using colour and inter carrier sound but I am afraid I no longer run any form of ATV.
